Superdry Pop Eyes Palette

Spring has almost sprung!! We've had some glorious sunshine over the last few says in South East London so I thought I'd bring out this little beauty of an eye palette by Superdry Beauty to get you all into the colourful, Spring-y frame of mind. I've been holding off on this one for obvious reasons... I haven't been able to bring myself to swatch it due to its prettiness and have been using it as an ornament for the last fortnight. Superdry definitely know how to package their cosmetics.

This eye-catching polkadotty palette consists of 9 shades in a combination of shimmer and matte finishes. It is a great selection for Spring with eye catching brights, neutral greys and subtle yellow/gold tones. I haven't reviewed an eye palette in ages. In fact, I haven't worn much eyeshadow at all during the winter months so now is the perfect time to give me a kick up the backside and take me into next season.

These shadows have a lovely texture! Really buttery and soft, with the exception of Product Orange which I had a bit of a job to build up. The pigmentation is also generally very good. The polkadot detailing doesn't really alter the shades in any way and is gone with the first brush stroke (sad face) but the colours themselves really are beautiful. My initial favourites on first impressions are Thistle, Shallow Teal and Blue Smoke and I'm sure that Navajo White will bring a gorgeous highlight to any look created from these shades. I'm going to try using a pop of colour on my lower lash line whilst keeping the upper lid fairly neutral. I feel a Spring eye makeup post coming on in the near future!

I was pleasantly surprised by the price of this palette. I was expecting it to be more but I think £15 for these 9 shadows is entirely reasonable and I'd be happy to pay that for it. Superdry Beauty packaging is really quirky and different and their products would all make great gifts for anyone who loves 'pink and quirky'. I've been really impressed with all of the Superdry Beauty products I've tried recently (if you missed my previous Valentine's Day makeup post featuring Superdry click Here).

Sleek Blush by 3: Lace

I know I said that this week was gonna be mainly skincare but, in an attempt to be more organised, I did photos for some new Sleek goodies at the same time and decided that this little beauty couldn't wait. The Sleek Blush By 3 palettes aren't a recent thing. They landed last year in Superdrug stores and online. At the time I picked up the 'Pumpkin' palette (my post on this can be found Here) and missed out on 'Lace' (it always seemed to be sold out) but it occurred to me recently that I hadn't bought any new Sleek products in a while and I went along to Superdrug and came out with this. 

I think it's safe to say that this is such a pretty blush palette. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Sleek are my favourite drugstore brand for blushes and these palettes are great value (3 full size Sleek blushes for £9.99 vs 3 single blushes from their core selection at £4.99 each). This shade palette is much more subtle than 'Pumpkin' but just as pigmented and buildable. This is one that I feel like I will use all year round for both day to day and evening makeup.

The Shades Are....

Crochet (Matte)

A slightly muted deep orange/peach 

Guipure (Shimmer)

A cool-ish toned pink with a stunning gold shimmer

and

Chantilly (Satin)

A deep reddened pink which looks different in different lights

Just as I have come to expect from Sleek, these shades were a pleasure to swatch and took little building to show the true colour. I'd say this palette is perfect for fair to medium skin tones. The texture is very blendable so, even if you find you've put a bit too much on your brush, they're easily evened out with a few strokes. Guipure has the most beautiful sheen (this photo really does not do it justice) and could give the infamous NARS Orgasm a run for it's money. I think Chantilly will get the most use out of the bunch but we'll see. I also love these Sleek blush palettes for travelling because they're so compact (saves makeup bag space for more lippy hehe) and have a GREAT size mirror.

My Xmas Face!

Hello there lovelies!!

I hope everyone had a truly wonderful Christmas and that you're not all stuck indoors full of flu like i am this New Years' Eve!! Brunette Beauty Banter has been extremely quiet over the festive period because myself and the fur-babies have been away visiting family in Derbyshire and Yorkshire for the past 10 days. That does NOT, however, mean that nothing has been happening and i have a couple of festive posts to go up tonight to end 2012. I thought i'd start with my Xmas FOTD and show you what my festive product choices were...

Forget the face for a sec, the first thing you'll probably notice is that i'm back to ombre, having removed all traces of the pink/red that was in my hair. Nothing against redheads at all, and it was fun while it lasted, but its all too messy and time consuming for me. And that's that. On to ze face....

Base:

I've got no time for anything mattifying at Christmas. It's all about the festive glow (helped along by lashings of pink bubbly and Baileys later on). The foundation i opted for was Max Factor Xperience in shade 80 (Dark Gypsum). I really rate this foundation for giving great coverage without being thick, heavy and generally obstructive. It's the ONLY drugstore foundation that i go back to again and again. The powder i went for was my Cover FX Illuminating Powder in Medium*. I have been very impressed by this powder, after being initially worried that it would be shine-city. It isn't at all and just gives a lovely glow to the skin as well as setting my foundation in place. 

Cheeks:

Kept it simple with just one product this year and it was Sleek Powder Blush in Fenberry (which i believe was a LE last year in the Berry Collection). I find this to be the perfect winter hue and gives a gorgeous warm flush to the cheeks. This blush only really gets used at Christmas, but i enjoy it all the more for saving it. I had intended to use a highlight as well, but i conveniently forgot to take it with me. Silly girl. In the end i didn't actually miss it. 

Eyes: 

Does this Mally "In the Buff" Palette* remind you of anything?? I'm going to do a full review of this palette VERY soon so i'm not going to go into detail just yet. I chose this for Christmas because i wanted a nice, neutral eye that wasn't overly shimmery and this palette has a great range of matte and shimmer shades so i could find that perfect balance. 

Eyes Ctd: 

These are all staple products in my makeup bag now. I use them EVERY day. I'm sure most of us can vouch for the awesome-ness of the HD Brows palette, although i'm using it less at the moment as i have a full fringe and that means i can get away with being lazy with my brows. HA! 17 Peep Show Mascara is my current favourite and i will be repurchasing it once its gone. It gives a lovely, long lash without being overly fibrous. My current Gel liner is the Maybelline version, but i plan on branching out in the new year and experimenting with other brands. 

Lashes: 

I'm not a massive wearer of lashes, but i chose these Eylure Katy Perry lashes in Sweetie Pie* for Christmas day because they are so pretty, yet aren't too RAWR. It wasn't a party party kind of Christmas this year, more of a family gathering so i went for the subtle-yet-sweet option. 

Lips:

This Christmas face was all about the lips. I knew immediately that this year i HAD to have MAC Ruby Woo (Retro Matte) lipstick. The lipliner i got to go with it was MAC Cherry lip pencil. I always seem to want a bold lip at Christmas and i adore the colour of Ruby Woo. It's so flattering. My only grumble is that its a little drying on my lips, but a dash of Carmex underneath is all it needs. 

So those were my Festive product heroes. Once again, i hope everyone had a magical Christmas and wish you all the best for 2013. I will be ushering in the new year eating Domino's and watching DVDs in bed witha BIG mug of Lemsip (Rock'n'Roll)

Getting Lippy with Japonesque...

Good evening lovelies!! 

Today's post is dedicated to all things LIPPY, but without being about ACTUAL lippy haha. I was lucky enough to be sent another beautiful parcel from the lovely peeps at Japonesque full of amazing lip goodies! This post is more of a show and tell than an instructional but i'd just like to have my 2 cents worth and tell you what i think of the products and my first impressions....

If you're a newbie to Japonesque products i'll give you a little intro before launching straight into the products. They are a San Francisco based company who specialise in precision crafted beauty products made from high quality materials and are a heavyweight name among makeup artists, professionals and beauty lovers just about everywhere. In fact i don't think i've read a bad review of a Japonesque product yet (and i've read a few). I posted a while ago now about their Travel Sized Blush brush and Angled Foundation brush and both have remained firm favourites of mine.

Travel Retractable Lip Brush:

I'll be honest and say i have never fully appreciated lip brushes. Call me lazy, but i just tend to whack my lippy on straight from the bullet and hope for the best. Howeverrrrr.... I have to say that this has prompted me to change my ways slightly!! 

This brush is great for precision application of lip products and i really appreciate it for the clean lines and how it evens out any crinkles in my lips (I'm getting on a bit in years now haha). One thing i particularly didn't like about lip brushes in the past was that i couldn't really carry them around with me as, once they've been used the dirty brush transferred product all over the inside of my handbag, but the retractable nature of this one means that the brush itself is kept well contained within the handle. 

Japonesque Makeup Bag

I'm not short of makeup bags by any stretch. I seem to have one for every occasion these days, but the second i saw this i just had this overwhelming urge to put all my lipsticks in it. It's actually the perfect size and fits most of my lipsticks in it (apart from the handful that reside in my various handbags and my everyday makeup bag). 

Not an awful lot else to say really other than that i love how sleek and professional it looks, and anything with Japonesque branding on it just makes my makeup look that much more posh haha.

Lipstick Palette Kit

This concept is COMPLETELY new to me but something i had been curious about attempting. Japonesque must have read my mind! As much as i do love to admire my lipsticks in the bullet, i sometimes wish that i could carry more than one shade around with me without ending up with 5 different lipsticks floating around in my bag. 

I also LOVE to mix my lipsticks up a bit. I absolutely adore MAC Myth for using as a base for a brighter colour to create a different shade completely! Favourite combos of mine are Myth/Vegas Volt and Myth/Lovelorn amongst others and i'm still experimenting. I see this kit as an ideal opportunity to pre-mix my shades so i don't have to be putting on two lipsticks all night.

The idea is that you cut of a piece/s of the lipstick/s you wish to depot into the palette into the melting cup, pop it in the microwave for 1min then mix thoroughly before pouring into one of the wells in the palette. Of course, for me, there is always a catch... My new flat in London does not yet have a microwave so i will be attempting this over a pan of hot water instead (kind of a bain-marie style thing) to melt the lipstick. 

I think a seperate blog post will be in order so you guys can see how i got on with mixing my lippies and creating my palette, as well as giving me the chance to show you what amazing colour blends i have created. It's honestly like having a whole new lipstick just by mixing two or more that you have already!!

Snake-Inspired FOTD with Urban Decay

Good afternoon lovelies!!

Been a bit of a barrage of lipstick posts on BBB lately and, i am one who likes to keep things a bit different and switch it up a bit. So today, when i was picking what i was going to wear i was very excited when i got a little bit inspired by my snake print leggings, and pulled out my 

Urban Decay Book of Shadows IV. 

I just think this palette is perfect for this particular look and colour selection. I haven't really mentioned it much since i did my initial post after getting it so it was about time it was given its moment of glory! I was going for a daytime look (cos it's daytime, duh) so i didn't want tons of eyeliner and wanted to let the shadow do the talking.

I have no idea why i wasn't compelled to wear liner with this look, but i go through phases with it. Sometimes i'll go for liquid liner every day, but sometimes i don't fancy eyeliner at all. I was very pleased how Cobra came out under my lower lashes and didn't want it overshadowed by a thick black line. I did have a slight glitter fallout issue with Midnight Rodeo but nothing that a swipe of the foundation brush wouldn't fix. 

Please excuse my scouse-brow.... I tidied them up a little this morning, but had no desire to launch into a full scale de-fuzzing. Its my day off after all. 

All in all i'm really happy with my Snake-Inspired makeup and i just ADORE Shy Girl, nomatter what i'm wearing. Sorry if you guys were expecting something more dramatic but i just fancied something subtle, yet effective today. Off to the parents for tea later with the boy so thought i'd make a little effort at least.

All Loved Up with FashionistA...

Good evening my lovelies!!

Even though i live on my own with two ferrets and not a whiff of a man (as if i'm bothered), the approach of Valentine's Day this month has got me going all romantic. Not for a boyfriend, but for MAKE UP!! Recently I've been going a bit bonkers for pinks and this time of the year (although a totally pointless occasion in my opinion) is the perfect excuse to get all pink and romantic. And i received some products recently that really fit the bill!! They're from the MAC of the drugstore world.... FASHIONISTA!!

When i first read about these Plumping Lip Glaze glosses I did wonder if i really needed them.... after all i did have a bit of a lip gloss HAUL not so long ago with the MUA 'Out There' plumping glosses but, as these were referred to as a 'glaze' rather than a gloss i was a little curious. I was promised amazing pigmentation and lips that are truly irresistible so how could i say no to THAT?!?!

Anyhoo here are the shades i received.....

Fashion Fuchsia 

As i expected these have a lot more of a sheen to them than the MUA glosses. This shade is almost a ringer for the MUA Pin Up Pink, until you consider the finish and texture. This gloss is a lot more sheer on the lips and has a little bit of a sparkle to it. Pigmentation is great, although it does give a more subtle finish. Fashion Fuchsia is a lovely reddened pink that would suit most skintones.

Hollywood

To look at them in the tube you can't really tell much of a difference between the two shades i have. But once you swatch them and wear them on the lips you see a marked difference. Hollywood is much cooler toned than Fashion Fuchsia and has even more of a sparkle to it. I'm not a fan of sparkly lips AT ALL but this does not seem too much and i have found myself reaching for this shade the most out of the two, which is a bit odd as i'm quite warm skinned. 

HEART SHAPED SWATCHES FTW!!! 

I really am surprising myself lately at how open i am to lipglosses. I have never been a fan of the texture or feel of gloss on my lips. I think it feels like i've been snogging a candle!! However, just like the MUA glosses i don't find these sticky and obstructive on my lips at all and i forget they're there after a while. They contain the exact same 'Maxi-Lip' ingredient as their MUA counterparts which gives you that gorgeous tingle for a fuller pout. Perfect to pucker up with on Valentine's Day if you have that special someone.... or if, like me, you couldn't give a HOOT and just want great lips.

I've been mulling over the price of these in my head. They are £5 compared to £2 for the MUA glosses. I've come to the conclusion that they SHOULD be higher in price for the reasons that you get a WHOPPING fat tube and they feel more luxurious on the lips. They also have a sweet taste to them while the MUA glosses have none. In terms of longevity, i haven't fully tested that out yet, but they're not in a hurry to rub off thats for sure. 

FashionistA Plumping Lip Glaze comes in 7 different shades and retails for £5 from selected Superdrug stores. I must stress to you that these were sent to me as samples, however this does not make me more or less likely to rave about them. I just happen to LIKE them!!

While we're on the subject of FashionistA products, i realised whilst taking the photos for this post, how neglectful i have been towards my FashionistA Blush Palette that i picked up from TOWIB back in October!! It has been on my to-do list for ages and i've never taken the time to fully play about with it. So i thought i'd tell you a little bit about it and show you the swatches NOW!!

These palettes are fully customisable and the eyeshadow/blush shades sold seperately for you to mix and match as you please. I'm not surprised that this brand has been dubbed 'the drugstore MAC' as you really can make your palette however you want it and change it around (even get 2 or 3)!! 

My palette came with these shades already in it and contains 3 blushers and an eyeshadow/highlight shade. I chose this palette (there were three variations available).

This selection was inspired by catwalk trends for Spring/Summer 2012 so is BANG ON for the upcoming new season. They are lovely, soft shades so fit with the Valentine's theme perfectly!! Pigmentation is very good and i had no problems swatching them. They are also easy to blend. I did have  a little trouble getting Butterscotch to show up on me (I'm medium skinned) but for paler ladies this would be a great shade!!

Now that i've had a proper play with the palette i've really been enjoying it. It is PERFECT for travel. You can put whichever shades you want in it and just GO! The mirror is also HUGE. I took it to London with me last week when i attended the ZOMGbloggersbash. 

FashionistA products are available in selected Superdrug stores. I, unfortunately, do not have one locally which stocks it so i am so greatful for the products i have received and feel very lucky indeed. I'm secretly hoping that FashionistA and Look Beauty will suddenly APPEAR in Chesterfield Superdrug very soon so i can have a proper play with the products.

MUA Immaculate Collection: Review, Swatches and Xmas PARTY Eyes!

I'm blogging today to show you the second part of my little MUA haul from last week. If you missed my first post all about the 'Out There' Plumping Glosses you can find that post HERE! 

As we probably are all aware now, with all the posts popping up everywhere about it, MUA are currently giving their 24 shadow Immaculate Collection palette away for FREE when you spend £8 on their products. This is available right through until the 3rd of January so any spare Xmas pennies are definitely well spent on the MUA site. 

For this post i have had a thorough play with the palette and come up with a review, swatches and a fabulous purple/gold Xmas party make up look using the colours. Hope you like!!

Ain't it a BEAUT!!! There are 24 shadows here, which is WAY more than you would get in any Urban Decay palette AND this baby will only set you back £8 (or nothing if you take advantage of the current offer). There's something for EVERYONE in here. Matte shades, shimmer shades, neutrals, brights, metallics.... Nothing has been left out. They have included a colour key on the back of this palette with all the shades represented by numbers, which makes it a LOT easier in terms of blogging and tutorials! And i have swatched them ALL for your viewing pleasure.... (please note i have not numbered the swatches as they are swatched exactly as they appear in the palette so i figured numbering to be a pointless exercise).

On the whole these shades are highly pigmented and the consistency is not to be grumbled at. I was pleased that, just like my Heaven&Earth palette, they were no effort to swatch or apply with a buttery texture. I really like MUA as a brand because i think they are just such AMAZING value for money yet can rival most higher priced brands with quality and pigmentation. However i DO have one quite major RANT about this palette...

I was so pleased that this palette contained both shimmer AND matte shades and some of the shades which REALLY caught my eye after just looking at the colours were shade 13, shade 16 and shade 23 because they were matte. But can you get a swatch out of them?? Can you HECK!! These shadows REFUSE to leave their pan. I couldn't get a swatch with my finger, with the sponge applicator OR with a brush. I tried it wet, dry, you name it. In the end i had to REALLY rough them up to get a semi decent swatch, which has ruined the look of my palette a little but i'll live with it for the sake of my blog. I probably dont need to point out which ones they are from the above photos because they look PATHETIC in comparison to the others. Similar on the eyes too. For the look i have done for this post i tried to use shade 13 but it just didnt deposit any colour onto the eye so i gave up on that one. 

BUT for 3 shades out of 24 i still think this palette is a MAJOR winner and well worth it's money!! 

And here's the Purple/Gold Christmas Party Eye look that i created with it last night....

MASSIVE LASHES!!! Bit OTT but i wanted drama hehe... These photos were taken using flash as i was short of light. The true result is still dramatic, but a bit softer and not quite so RAWR haha.

Sooooo here's what i used....

 Urban Decay Primer Potion
MUA Shade 14 (all over the lid)
MUA Shade 24 (on the outer lid and through the crease - blended as i went along)
MUA Shade 7 (right in the crease and to line the outer parts of the eyes - winged out slightly then blended into the purple)
I then blended all three shades along the lower lashline and added Avon Supershock Gel liner pencil in the waterline and upper lashline (avoiding the inner corners)
I finished off by adding more shade 14 to the inner corners and a couple of coats of Urban Decay Curling Mascara.
The Eyelashes i used (just in case you're feeling dramatic) were Eylure 101

I really love purples at the moment and, as i have green eyes i am happy to use them as they make them go POP!! The shadows were very easy to work with and very blendable. There is a little fallout, especially from the gold shade (as you can see from the close up photo as that was BEFORE i had cleaned up) but you get fallout from even the most expensive of palettes, in my experience. A bit of foundation or concealer is all that is needed to restore harmony to the under-eyes.

Urban Decay Book of Shadows IV: First Impressions

Evening my lovelies!!! 

I made a little purchase that i shouldn't have last week. Okay okay, so it was a pretty MAJOR purchase (given my current budget) but i'd spied it whilst shopping in Meadowhall the previous day and, although having previously been EXTREMELY pleased with myself for just picking it up, fondling it for a couple of minutes and then putting it BACK, I just couldn't stop thinking about it. Anyhoo, to cut a long story short i ordered the bugger from the House of Fraser website the next day. Queue MUCHO GUILTO! I adore it, but my Mastercard has now condemned me to HELL for it....

And it was THIS.....

Urban Decay Book of Shadows IV

Ain't it a BEAUT!! This is the first Book of Shadows i have ever purchased. My only UD palette up until now is my beloved Naked palette. However, i am GUTTED i never purchased the Alice in Wonderland Book of Shadows as i am just in LOVE with that story. 

Unlike my Naked palette, this set not only contains 16 beautiful shadows but ALSO a full size 24/7 Liquid liner and travel sizes in the Supercurl Curling Mascara and the much loved Primer Potion, which comes in a squeezy tube this time rather than the screw top vial as featured in Naked. I think i prefer it in this as i feel that there is a lot of potential for waste with the previous packaging. This will be so much easier for squeezing out every last precious drop. And i just cant wait to try out the mascara and liner. I've been scraping by on a dodgy liquid liner for a while now and 24/7, when i swatched it briefly on my hand, would not wash off!! Can't wait to test its staying power. 

This palette contains 16 shades and 10 of those are brand new, never released with any other palette. It does contain the shades Sin and Gunmetal which are included in the Naked palette but i will forgive Urban Decay for that because i am just so EXCITED to start playing with the other shades!

When i was cooing over this in Debenhams last week i was originally taken with the Blue Bus and Gravity shades and intrigued by Cobra and Bender. I feel that purple/blues and dirty greens are very much missing in my eyeshadow collection. I do have a tendency to stick to taupes, browns and golds (which this palette does also contain), but that just means that this palette will be even more LOVED!!

I haven't touched the shadows AT ALL yet. Not one swatch. This is because i wanted to wait until i have at least a couple of hours where i feel well enough, and focused enough to devote my attention to playing with it. And i can't wait to post about it!! 

LOOK!! Pop up BUTTERFLIES!! 

What i don't really get is the whole QR reader/speaker/video/USB thing they've done with it. I think its a nice idea but it all seems a bit faffy and gimmicky to me. Maybe i'll give it a bash one day if i get bored.

I picked up a new Sleek palette about a week ago, and when SOMEONE was bugging me earlier to blog i thought i'd break it out for your swatching pleasure, even though i haven't had the opportunity to play around with it yet. I will definitely have a good play around with it this week though and take some photos. 

So here it is!!

I fancied this pallette for a while before i finally bought it. This was only because there always seemed to be a palette i wanted MORE than this one up to now and i wasn't in any danger of this one selling out so i went for my Monaco and Oh So Special before finally picking this one up. Not that this one didn't seem special, but i just WANTED the others first.

This is not a Limited Edition palette so the shades do not have names like those that are. I just knew from the moment i first swatched it in Superdrug that these were colours that i would ADORE and want to wear a lot. I love my golden shades and most of these shadows have a sheen to them. 

On first impressions of this palette i did think that some of the shades were obvious dupes for those in other palettes. I may do a little comparison post at a later date between my palettes. First impressions can be deceiving though and, once swatched, even shades which seem the same WITHIN this palette come out differently. One may have a yellowy/gold sheen to it as another may have more purple tones even though they look VERY similar in the pan and this is definitely true of this palette. That's my lesson for the day. Don't write a palette off just because you think it looks the same as one you already have. 

I just love the shades in this palette. Once again i felt rather let down by Sleek when it came to the matte shades. I just find them chalky and lacking in pigmentation. With THIS palette it isn't such an issue though as the only matte shade seems to be the black. The other shades so not disappoint on pigmentation and, going on my other palettes i have been using and LOVE, i don't see them being difficult to work with at all. 

I can't wait to wear these colours. Although this is definitely a summery-themed palette i have a feeling these colours will compliment Autumn/Fall very well. The one colour that has me STUMPED is the random blue they've chucked in there. There must be a point to it and i look forward to finding this out once i have time to sit down and work with the colours and figure the whole thing out. 

From merely swatching it i am already rather taken with the first 2 shades on the bottom row, as well as the GORGEOUS orange and the yellowy gold on the top row. I can see this being that palette that you could get away with taking on holiday without taking ANY other shadows. Its tan-TASTIC!!
